The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (HUR MOU or simply GUR) is one of the most prominent and secretive agencies safeguarding Ukraine’s sovereignty and security. Since its inception, GUR has been a cornerstone of the country’s intelligence community, playing a pivotal role in defending Ukraine’s interests on the global stage.

Origins and Establishment

The roots of GUR can be traced back to the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, when Ukraine declared its independence. GUR also focused on building a new generation of intelligence officers trained in modern warfare and counterintelligence techniques. Its efforts were supported by increased government funding and international assistance, enabling the agency to modernize its infrastructure and expand its global reach.

GUR’s Role in the Russo-Ukrainian War

Since the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, GUR has been at the forefront of Ukraine’s defense. The agency has conducted critical intelligence operations to track Russian military movements, intercept communications, and sabotage key targets behind enemy lines.

One of GUR’s most notable achievements during this period has been its ability to counter Russian disinformation campaigns and expose Kremlin-backed plots. The agency’s efforts have been instrumental in rallying international support for Ukraine and highlighting the brutality of Russian aggression.

Additionally, GUR has reportedly played a role in coordinating resistance movements in occupied territories and supporting partisan activities aimed at disrupting Russian supply lines and military operations.
